FLOATILLA DETAILS: For the past 15 years people have enjoyed the annual Cross Lake Floatilla. It has taken place at various locations around the lake and has quite a history of its own. There will be participants there that have never missed a floatilla and have the T-shirts from each to prove it. Once you go…you’re hooked.

This year is the second year for the American Legion to sponsor and host the event. The event actually begins on Friday night as the American Legion has registration for the poker run to be held Saturday. (For $30 you will receive the rights to a random poker hand, picked up on Saturday. Poker hands are retrieved when you travel by boat to 5 various landmarks. You’ll also get a free T-shirt when you register.) Also on Friday you can enjoy all-you-can-eat catfish for $10 (5:30-7:30) and dance to “Sons of the Panasonic”, between the hours of 6-10pm.

But Saturday is when the floatilla goes into full swing. It begins with the poker run between 1 and 3pm and then the winners will be announced, cash prizes for the winners.

Boats from all over the area will travel and gang up around the pier at the American Legion Post 14 and listen to the sounds of “Sons of the Panasonic” playing from 3-7pm. You can enjoy food and drink sold in the parking lot or bring your own. A boat is not necessary, just bring your chairs and hang out.

At 3pm, the Sheriff’s Department will demonstrate their new “hovercraft” boat. A color guard from Boy Scout Troop 96 will place the US flag at the end of the pier, as representatives from the police and fire departments, armed forces and a mayoral representative will board the lead boat for the “parading of decorated boats”. They will also judge the boats for three winners. Winning entries will receive cash and prizes and a flag to hang from their boat designating them as winners.

Bring your chairs or float in a boat at the American Legion on South Lakeshore Drive and enjoy music, food, drinks, beautiful scenery and fun in the sun.
